Hailey we're blushing - Rhode Pocket Blush Review.
Theres a lot to unpack here...its feeling like a Rhode Summer
I do FEAR the Rhode SKIN team knows exactly what they’re doing and we’re looking at hit after hit. I didn’t expect much when it came to the Rhode Pocket blushes; I was expecting a simple blush formula in cute shades but BOY did they prove me wrong!
The first blush launch is 6 universal shades in gorgeous tubed packaging which at first I thought would be a little clunky but they are actually very comfortable to hold and functional to use. Surprisingly there’s not a shade I dislike, they seem to be matched to the current Rhode lip treatments so expect a LOT of monochromatic looks over the summer months.
✨FORMULA✨
The formula is very soft to the touch but thankfully not too glowy OR sheer that they aren’t flexible in their finished look. They have a satin finish with a lightweight texture that actually lasts all day. The formula almost melts over the skin without feeling greasy. How they did this without compromising on pigment is still beyond me but I digress…
I say that to say this, if you wear them with a matte base they leave the skin looking moisturised and hydrated rather than glossy and dewy which I can really appreciate. Obviously, if you started with a glowy base they will amp that up.
They have a cloud-like quality that you would usually expect from a matte blush that I really enjoy despite being a glowier formula and the pigment builds very easily without feeling balmy or heavy on the skin so you have a range with your finished blush look.
I haven’t noticed them picking up product underneath when applied with a brush or straight to the face and they aren’t patchy. They also can be worn on the lips but I don’t feel the pigment lasts as long which is to be expected.
Of the six shades, I would say that Juice Box (a hot pink) and Sleepy Girl (a soft mauve) are my favourites and the two I’ve been reaching for the most but a touch of Piggy (baby pink) on the top does not go a miss round here!
Now let’s talk comparatively so you can understand what’s in store for you should you find yourself on the Rhode website. This was hard to do, due to the way these blushes feel versus their application and wear as there aren’t many similar blushes in both aspects.
I’ve seen a lot of people comparing them to the Milk makeup blushes assuming because Hailey had partnered with Milk a lot before the colour launch but they couldn't be further from the Rhode formula and I’m so glad!
If we’re going for the *most* similar it’s the Victoria Beckham Beauty Cheek Posh blushes (which also happen to be one of my favourite blush formula’s and I would say arguably the most underrated blush on the market). The dry down, the longevity, and the weightless feel are all INCREDIBLY similar to the Pocket Blushes, I would say the main difference here is how rich and solid the Cheeky Posh blushes are to touch compared to the softness of the Rhode.
The Pocket blushes have a soft cloud velvet feel compared to the VBB’s “thickness” or “stiffness”. I say both of those words lightly because while they aren’t a dry formula but speaking comparatively this makes the most sense. The VBB blushes are definitely not a “stiff” or tough formula as a stand alone product; other than that you’re looking at a VERY similar formula.
The only area that this comparison falls short is in the application, I would say due to the classic stick feel of the Cheeky Posh blushes, I wouldn’t apply them straight to the face as they have more tug so you’ll spend more time moving and blending the product whereas the Rhode blushes glide and blend SO effortlessly regardless of how you apply; they also have a SMIDGE more glow and a little less pigment on initial application which gives you a bit more flexibility.
The second blush that I could compare the Pocket blushes to would be the Patrickta cream blushes in the blush duos, in that it’s a creamier buildable, satin glow blush, and the level of pigment you’re able to apply and build on from the first application is similar but again I would say the Patrickta are maybe a touch glowier. The application and texture are completely different. The Rhode blushes are much easier to apply.
If you’re looking for a new cream blush I honestly haven’t tried anything like this formula yet and the Rhode team should be proud that they’ve actually made something that stands out from the rest of the products we’ve already got on the market. I haven’t stopped reaching for them and I would happily repurchase once mine run out.
Personally I would recommend the Pocket blushes to the no-fuss, easy-on-the-go kind of person, they are something that can be worn lightly in the day and boldly at night. A super flexible easy-to-use blush that’s no bigger than a lipstick. They are perfect if you’re new to cream blush, they blend so easily it would be hard to mess this one up.
